2012 Spring/Summer Rental Kart Racing Series starts this Saturday!

What activity is loaded with adrenaline-fueled fun, is more affordable than a trip to the gas station, and is just a stone's throw from wherever you live?

The answer is: Rental Kart Racing at PGP Motorsports Park and you can get started this weekend!

PGP has three ways for you to get — or start — your racing fix with our rental kart fleet: (1) Saturday Morning Enduro Racing, (2) Rental Kart League Racing (RKLR) and (3) Wednesday Evening Oval Racing.

Rental Kart racing is perfect for newcomers and experienced karters alike. All racing at PGP is rain or shine and rental kart events are open to those 15 and older with no prior racing experience or competition license required. You show up ready to experience the thrill of racing and PGP provides the rest — the kart, fuel, tires, helmet, rain gear if needed and a state-of-the-art track.

See below for a complete list of upcoming rental kart events, but be warned: PGP’s rental karts are highly addictive; don’t be surprised if you get hooked and just can’t get enough!

Saturday Morning Enduro Racing

The first of six Saturday Morning Enduro events is at 9 a.m. this Saturday, May 5. Pre-registration is required, by email, fax or in person, using the forms on our website.

You may have what it takes to put down a fast lap in one of PGP’s rental karts, but can you do it lap after lap after lap? To find out, grab up to two friends to take on the field in the Team class or run on your own in the Ironman class. Saturday Morning Enduro events and include one practice session and two competitive racing sessions: one for 30 minutes and one for 60 minutes.

Kart assignments will be made based on a random draw, with new karts assigned after each segment. The field will be inverted based on a random draw, and we'll use ballast weight to ensure everyone is on an even playing field. Both the Team and Ironman completing the most laps over the total 90 minutes will hoist winner’s trophies at the top of the PGP podium.

Cost per person is based on number of drivers on the team: Three-person team/cost per driver: $50 member, $60 non-member; two-person team/cost per driver: $75 member, $85 non-member; one-person team: $125 member, $135 non-member.

Race dates: May 5, May 19, July 16, July 14, July 28 and Aug. 18.

Rental Kart League Racing

Formerly known as the Rental Kart Racing Series, the RKLR returns to action on May 12 with the first of eight rounds. We've seen a huge increase in participation in RKLR events and PGP has gone to great lengths to increase the parity and quality of the races in our rental series. This increased structure has promoted the level of sportsmanship and generated great competition and fast, clean racing amongst our karters.

For RKLR events we'll use weights to ensure the two classes, Expert and Novice, are equalized to ensure fair performance for different-sized racers. We'll kick things off at 9 a.m. and give you four on-track sessions — practice, qualifying, Pre-Final and Final — before the event wraps up at 11:30 a.m. with an awards presentation.

There is no maximum number of drivers; the member fee for a single event is $85 and for non-members it is $95. Pre-registration by email, fax or in person is required using the forms on our website.

Race dates: May 12, May 26, June 9, June 23, July 1, July 21, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25

Wednesday Evening Oval Racing

Oval Racing returns to PGP by popular demand on Wednesday, May 30, for the first of four events. If you haven't tried our Oval Racing before, you are in for a fun, exhilarating night of close, exciting racing.

But don’t be fooled into thinking it’ll be easy racing on the oval track, just having to turn one direction: one mistake and the rest of the field will go by you so fast you’ll think you’re broken down on the interstate.

Kart assignments will be made based on a random draw and we'll use ballast weight to ensure everyone is on an even playing field. Each race event will consist of practice, qualifying, a heat race and the final event.

Cost is $85 member, $95 non-member. Registration closes at 5:45 p.m. followed immediately by racing promptly at 6 p.m. Pre-register by email, fax or in person using the forms on our website.

Race dates: May 30, June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15.
