We've got another round of exciting and fun Rental Kart League Racing (RKLR) this Saturday, which means a great day at the track for both experienced and novice karters.
But you don't have to take our word for it. Here's how Dwayne Codrington (in both photos) described RKLR: "In one word ... exhilarating! Its a great way to get out and see how fast you truly are and the 2.5 hours just goes by so quickly ... before you know it you are back in the car heading unto (highway) 18 with a smile on your face :)."
Dwayne, who lives in Newcastle, Wash., and is an employee at Microsoft, took part in Car Lapping Days at PGP before switching over to karting earlier this year. We asked Dwayne, who said he prefers "the full course layout in either direction because it tests all skills with the variation of corners," what he likes about competing in our RKLR events.
"There's a good group of core regulars that have been coming out and we have a lot of fun with each other both in and outside of the races," Dwayne replied. "The karts are all very similar and they make the lighter folk put in some weight so they get up to 190 lbs or so. It makes the racing very fair and forces you to work more on your driving skill."
Saturday's RKLR event kicks off at 9 a.m. with the first of four on-track sessions — practice, qualifying, Pre-Final and Final — before the event wraps up at 11:30 a.m. As Dwayne pointed out, weights will be used to ensure the two RKLR classes, Expert and Novice, are equalized for all racers.
You show up (and are 15 or older) and we provide the rest: kart, fuel, tires, helmet and rain gear if conditions warrant (all Rental Kart series events are rain or shine). There is no maximum number of drivers and the member fee for a single event is $85 and for non-members it is $95. Pre-registration by email, fax or in person is required using the forms on our website.
Dwayne told us his goal is to win races so he's "working on getting more competitive" and RKLR events provide a great way for newcomers to experience the sport and sharpen their karting skills while having fun.
As Dwayne said, those who have never karted before or only taken part in PGP's Open Rentals will find "coming to RKLR means you have other like-minded and similarly skilled individuals that are most likely going to be faster than you."
So grab your friends, family, or co-workers and give PGP's RKLR a try. You'll find out quickly why drivers like Dwayne come back week after week for this addicting sport.
After the RKLR event wraps up on Saturday we'll have Open Rentals until dusk, and Sunday we'll have Open Rentals from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
