Looking for a fun and exciting way to spend some quality time with your friends or family? Why not do what Jeff and Kevin Janders of Gig Harbor have done and come out to PGP this weekend for some endurance racing.
"The Enduro gives us a chance to work together as a team," said Jeff, father of Kevin. "We figure out a strategy before the race based upon the weather and the other teams and discuss the strategy during the pit stops."
In PGP's Enduro events you can have teams of two or three drivers, or run solo as an Ironman. Pre-registration for these popular races is strongly encouraged by email, fax or in person, using the forms on our website. Each event includes qualifying, practice and one 90-minute race. Cost and other information can be found at www.PacificGP.com.
The father-and-son team won the Enduro event on July 14, 2012 (photo). For Jeff, a Human Resources Specialist at Boeing, and high school student and YouTube entrepreneur Kevin, PGP's Enduro events give them plenty of time to enjoy each other's company and what they like best about racing.
"Both Kevin and I like the technical challenges of trying to drive faster and faster. If we drive our personal best times and don't place well, we still consider the day a success," said Jeff. "But for me, probably the best thing is that it's a fabulous way to follow the advice of all those experts who talk about how important it is to spend time with your kids. This is better than other sports because I actually get to play too!"
The Janders have been regular visitors to PGP for about a year, joining a friendly, tight-knit community of racers who enjoy Rental League and Enduro events as well as drop-in sessions. Being a part of the infield scene at PGP has helped improve their racing and their level of enjoyment.
"We really like listening to the PGP regulars, many of whom own and race their own high-performance go karts," said Jeff (No. 13 in photo; Kevin is No. 16). "All the really good racers at PGP are always willing to help you figure stuff out and make suggestions. And, the staff at the track really goes above and beyond to make sure we have a great time whenever we are there."
Going fast is nothing new to Jeff, who has been racing high-performance sailboats for 30 years. Kevin joined him on the water this year, but Jeff said both "really like the challenges that exist in (kart) racing. You've got to figure out how to become one with the kart you're driving, what is the best line to take around the track, how to pass (or not get passed), how to change your driving style for the weather — all these little things that add up to better finishes."
As Jeff pointed out, rental kart racing at PGP is PERFECT for newcomers to start karting and experienced pilots to get their adrenaline fix. PGP provides everything, kart, tires, fuel, rain gear if needed, and a knowledgeable staff to answer questions and offer advice. You just show up and have fun.
Why not come out to PGP this weekend for the Enduro and see for yourself? As Jeff told us: "We always tell people there is no way to describe what its like to drive a go kart at PGP. You've just got to get out there and try it for yourself. But expect a real live video game!"
