The racing in the 2013 Summer Rental Racing League was some of the best we have seen to date. Both the Pro-Am and the Pro Categories had excellent turnouts and even better racing. In addition to the awesome racing in Pro and Pro-Am, our newly formed Amateur category showed its incredible potential for getting new racers involved in competitive karting at PGP.
The Pro-Am category saw 36 racers battle it out over the course of the seven race series. Four different drivers stood atop the podium with Spencer Foote, Jenna Johnson, Jeffrey Ducken and Simon Briant all scoring at least one win. Jenna Johnson scored a series high three wins, with only some bad luck in race #3 keeping her from scoring the top spot in the championship. She came home in third place for the series. Spencer Foote leveraged his two wins on the series to finish second in the points. In the end it would be Bryan Hagmeyer, with his endless string of podium finishes that would grab the top honors. We congratulate Bryan on his awesome season and look forward to seeing him battle it out in the Pro category in the Fall Series!
In the Pro category, three drivers each scored multiple race wins. Jerry Peterson, Jim Lilleberg and Maurice Shawver each managed two race victories. Michael Kinney scored the other win on the series proving just how tight the competition was. Billy Watts made quick work of his transition from the Pro-Am category to Pro. A string of solid finishes netted this Pro category rookie the 3rd place honors in the series points. Look for Billy to be challenging for race wins and the championship as we head into the Fall series. Michael Kinney came home in second place in the points on the back of a victory in race #1 followed by consistent runs near the front for the rest of the series. But on top, PGP veteran Maurice Shawver showed why he has more PGP series championships than any other driver. Maurice used his two race victories and multiple podium finishes to secure his record 7th PGP series Championship.
The racers get a short break before the Fall Rental League series fires up on September 21st. With the fresh batch of racers moving up from Pro-Am to the Pro category and the influx of racers from the Amateur series, the Fall series is sure to bring even hotter racing action! A special thanks goes out to all of our racers for making the 2013 Summer Rental Racing League one to remember.
